Ultragrip Bridges The Gap From PE To Metal

Posted on 01st Apr 2005

Advice from pipe joints and repair products specialist Viking Johnson helped a water mains contractor to complete a difficult connection on a 45-degree bend between 250mm MDPE and 200mm cast iron.

Exceptional mains pressure of around 9 bar made end restraint essential, but a thrust block could not be used because of the spongy clay ground.

To prevent any risk of the connection between the MDPE and cast iron flanges pulling apart when the supply was restored, Viking Johnson recommended its UltraGrip flange adaptor. UltraGrip products are supplied with grippers that secure the pipe (removing the need for end restraint) as pressure increases up to a maximum of 10 bar.

If axial movement is the problem, the Ultragrip range - which also includes pipe couplings and end caps – can be converted to a flex product that accommodates angular deflections of up to 8 degrees simply by removing the grippers.

UltraGrip’s versatility is further enhanced by its tolerance of differences in outside diameters of up to 44mm, simplifying stockholding and installation alike.
