More Ultragrips From Viking Johnson

Posted on 01st May 2005

Viking Johnson has added Reducing Couplings and Pecatadaptors to its UltraGrip range of high tolerance couplings, flange adaptors and end caps for self-gripping.

The Reducing Coupling is a true reducer from one nominal bore to another, and the Pecatadaptor is a factory-fitted connection between PE and the UltraGrip for use on both water and gas mains.

UltraGrip is supplied with a unique gripping mechanism to restrain axial loads, but the gripping segments can easily be removed in situations where a flex product is required.

The system works on almost every combination of pipe materials - steel, ductile and cast iron and PVC, plus PE for gripping and asbestos cement for the flex product – making it ideal for plastic to metal transitions. The products can also accommodate up to eight degrees of angularity.

This versatility - and its ability to accommodate differences in pipe OD of up to 44mm, depending on size – has won UltraGrip many converts in the UK, where it was introduced less than two years ago after an initial launch in Germany.

Balfour Beatty Utilities, for example, recently used an UltraGrip flange adaptor on a Yorkshire Water mains rehabilitation project to restrain a 45-degree transition from cast iron to MDPE in spongy clay ground where a thrust block could not be used.
