Aquagrip Makes Sure Of HPPE / DI Connections

When Yorkshire Water wanted to be certain of secure connections between polyethylene and ductile iron pipes, it was Viking Johnson AquaGrip flange adaptors they specified.
The need arose during relocation of the 630mm water main supplying North Ferriby on Humberside, to make way for roadworks to reduce traffic congestion at a busy junction on the A63 into Hull.
Part of the new route, which was laid by Balfour Beatty Utilities, is a section of HPPE in a 900mm sleeve under the road, with complex connections into the ductile iron on one side and a 45-degree bend on the other.
Yorkshire Water’s decision to use 630mm AquaGrip rather than stub flanges was influenced by concern about the feasibility of achieving a sound, uncontaminated weld for such a large diameter on a busy highway construction site.
AquaGrip is used extensively by the UK water industry because of its ability to grip PE pipe, resisting pullout in accordance with WIS 4-24-01.
For ease of working under difficult site conditions, no special skills or tools are needed. The flange can be rotated to align bolt holes, and installation can be carried out under wet trench conditions.
