Viking Johnson Delivers For Yorkshire Water

Posted on 06th Sep 2002

Viking Johnson is delivering product for use in the three-year modernisation programme of Bradford Intermediate Ring Main.

The pipe joints and repair products company secured the contract from Yorkshire Water/Kenton Utilities as part of the ?15 million Bradford Water Quality Scheme.

Viking Johnson is supplying a mixture of large and smaller diameter fittings up to 1200mm diameter, this includes flange adaptors, stepped and straight couplings to Yorkshire Water's contractor Kenton Utilities Development Ltd, part of Balfour Beatty Group of Companies.

In total it is estimated that over 400 units will be supplied by Viking Johnson over the contract period to upgrade 123km of pipework, some of which was laid in the 1920s. A phased delivery programme has been developed by Viking Johnson and Kenton Utilities Development to ensure the products are manufactured on time and to give minimal disruption to Yorkshire Waters customers.

As one of Yorkshire Water's long-term partners we have been involved with the planning of the project from a very early stage, advising and assisting when requested says Allan Gunn, Area Sales Manager at Viking Johnson. Yorkshire Water needs a guarantee that the replacement and modernisation work on this complex system will last. We offer those performance guarantees and have both the knowledge and experience to deliver.

Ian Johnson, Solutions Manager for Yorkshire Water added: This is the largest project we've ever undertaken. Viking Johnson is one of the few companies in the world who have the technical expertise to design and manufacture products to satisfy the requirements of such an elaborate scheme and work with our other contractors in partnership.

Planning work on the project commenced nearly eighteen months ago. Since then Viking Johnson has worked closely with Graeme Hogarth of Kenton Utilities Development to provide the wide mix of fittings and flange adaptors required.

VJ hold the framework contract from Yorkshire Water, but we would have worked with them on this project irrespective of that as they have the knowledge, expertise and service levels we need," explained Graeme.
